The list of responsibilities for Operation Theatre Technologist are:

  • Getting operating rooms and surgical equipment ready for use.
  • Helping out in the operating room and with anesthesia.
  • Keeping the operating rooms clean and safe for both hospital employees and patients, as well as maintaining the equipment used there.
  • Updating and replenishing surgical equipment.
  • Patient transportation to and from the surgery room.
  • Positioning patients in the operating room and preparing them for operation.
  • Reassuring patients that they are cared for during their time in the post-operative area.

Roles and Responsibilities of operation theatre Technologist are:

  • operating equipment used in diagnosing and monitoring disorders of the heart, kidneys, nervous system and hearing, and in anaesthesia
  • undertaking and assisting with medical analytical procedures and assisting Anaesthetists and surgical teams
  • recording the electrical activity of the heart, from which the heart rate is measured and pattern and rhythm interpreted
  • taking, collecting and labelling blood, urine and other samples from patients
  • preparing and staining slides and tissue sections for blood and histological examination
  • performing diagnostic tests on tissues and body fluids and analyzing the chemical constituents of blood, urine, faeces and tissues
  • testing for diseases by looking for the presence of antibodies and the products of immune response in samples
  • setting up, checking and maintaining operating theatres, anaesthetic workstations, life support machines and associated equipment
  • referring prescriptions to Pharmacists and assisting in preparing medications

Technicians in operating rooms are responsible for a variety of tasks including but not limited to:

  • Operating machinery used in the diagnosis and monitoring of cardiovascular, renal, nervous system, auditory, and anesthetic disorders, as well as providing assistance with such tasks as drawing blood and performing electrocardiograms. Doctors of anesthesia and operating room staff
  • Keeping tabs on your heart’s electrical activity, from which your pulse rate can be calculated and its rhythm and pattern deduced
  • Obtaining samples (such as blood, urine, etc.) from patients, collecting them, and labeling them
  • Slide and tissue segment preparation and staining for histological and hematological testing
  • The analysis of chemical components in bodily fluids and tissues for diagnostic purposes
  • Diagnosing illnesses by analyzing tissue and fluid samples for the presence of immune reaction by products such antibodies
  • Preparing, inspecting, and repairing operating rooms, anesthetic stations, life support apparatus, and related tools
  • Directing patients to Pharmacists and helping them fill prescriptions
